New Constitution

The society has been running successfully for many years, but good governance requires we update our constitution to provide clarity about the composition and operation of the executive committee, annual reporting, and provision for amendments of change to the society. Work to develop and implement improvements have largely been driven by Hein van Haeringen and Ingrid Olsaker, and the new constitution can now be viewed online

Future of ISAG

To gather information and ideas from members about how we can improve the society, we ran a questionnaire earlier in the year. This returned a mountain of information, which we are still working our way through; however, the figures in document linked below provide summary feedback about the results from respondents. Thanks everyone who took the time to participate; we will be shortlisting a number of opportunities for additional discussion and development at the Lleida meeting.

Progress Towards the 2019 ISAG Conference in Spain

The Executive Committee met on site in Lleida to inspect the wonderful conference facilities and advance plans for the meeting with the local organizing committee. Joan Estany and Romi Pena are doing an outstanding job in preparation for the event and I am happy to report that plans are progressing nicely. The venue is excellent and Lleida will be a fantastic host city for the week. The train from Barcelona makes for easy access, and I urge you to begin making preparations to attend. The ISAG 2019 page has all the information to assist you, and I am looking forward to a fantastic experience!

Access for members to our journal, Animal Genetics

The Future of ISAG questionnaire revealed a sizable proportion of society members were not aware that membership affords free access to our journal and all its content. To assist making access easy, we have arranged for TPS access. This means password-free access to current papers and the archive with one click after logging into the ISAG website as an individual member.

Privacy Policies

As most of our European-based members will be aware, the EU passed legislation on data protection and privacy for all individuals called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The intent of this legislation is to provide control for citizens concerning the storage and use of private information by both business and other institutions. Our society is no different, so the Executive Committee has compiled a Privacy Statement that defines the data we collect and how it can be used. I urge you to familiarize yourself with the statement, which is an important step for our society.

2018 General Business Meeting

Our constitution stipulates we hold GBM annually, and this year the Executive Committee held the meeting on June 12th in Lleida to coincide with our planning discussions in advance of the 2019 event. Given 2018 was not a conference year, the Executive Committee acknowledges it was difficult for most members to participate. In response, much of the business discussed will be repeated at the GBM-2019 in Lleida to conclude the ISAG-meeting.
